After the demise of communism the Warsaw landscape was significantly enriched by new monuments commemorating the victims of the 20th century. For example the monument of those murdered in the East, the monument of the Victims of the Communist Terror, many statues of priest Jerzy Popiełuszko, and other Second World War martyrs. Most of these monuments use the religious symbolism and therefore have an impact on the perception of the past events they commemorate.

The analyses should attempt to determine the extent to which the process of replacing traditional religious symbols with the ones connected with the 20th century history influences the interpretation of certain places’ past.
